At the end of the nineteen eighties, when my studio was in an old store front that had long before been a neighborhood grocery, I painted on canvas . The vastness of the floor space begged to be covered. Somehow I had an eight foot wide roll of heavyweight canvas, maybe 30 yards, left over from the 1974 Ohio State Office commission (the yellow painting shown below).
These images do not relate scale-wise. Each canvas is 8′ by “X”, generally, the shortest side is eight feet long.
I wish I had better pictures of these large canvases. The largest piece, not shown, was 20′ by 8′, called “Black Ionic”. It looked like a cross between a gigantic telephone and an ionic capital.1980 Large Paintings on Canvas
