Beadman's Work (click for further explaination)
The return to handmade paper was strong during this time.
"In early September of 2001 I had begun paper production for a new series of paintings on linen and cotton paper. I had been working in the mill since five in the morning, on the eleventh, when the phone rang. My daughter, calling from New Haven, said "Turn on the television. A plane just crashed into a building in New York". I interrupted my work.
I didn't feel like making art, once the negativity of the event hit me. While I couldn't make art under such feelings, I could do craft. Over the next few days I contacted friends and asked them to send me a well-loved article of clothing."
The fibers from the gathered apparel intermingled in the paper used for "Beadman's Work" and subsequent work.
