The wide repertoire of shapes during the 1980s drew upon key motifs from non western sources; kimonos, tablitas, shields, keystones, wedges, fans, hooked rug spirals, and other formats. Each shape was painted or printed in a non traditional design vis-a-vis the expected non western roots of the shape.
